WE ARE THE NORTH EAST'S FIRST ENTIRELY VEGAN AMERICAN-STYLE DINER, CONVENIENTLY LOCATED IN THE HEART OF GATESHEAD TOWN CENTRE. JUST A 3 MINUTE WALK FROM GATESHEAD METRO STATION AND RIGHT OPPOSITE THE CIVIC CENTRE.

What is Grumpy Panda Food?
Grumpy Panda Food is the North East's only American-style vegan diner! We're also the first entirely vegan eatery in Gateshead too.
We're an independent local family run business and we absolutely love what we do. We started out as an events catering company and found the North East was lagging behind on the vegan scene, so out popped our lovely little diner, right in the heart of Gateshead town centre.
We're often asked where our name came from but truth is, we haven't got a clue! It just became a thing; it's different, memorable and works with our colour scheme ;)
Wait.. Is everything you serve vegan?
YES! As it comes, everything on our diner menu is served 100% vegan! We make our own 'eggs', 'cheese' and 'meats' on site and from scratch so we know exactly what goes into them.
What's the "Kraken" challenge & how do I take part?
The Kraken challenge is our huge 'Man vs Food' style eating challenge consisting of 1x Grilled Reuben Sandwich, 1x Quarter Pounder Cheezburger, 1x Rib Dog, 1x Mac 'n' Cheez side, 1x Dirty Fries side & a whole heap of 'slaw. You have 15 minutes to attempt the challenge - if you fail you'll nail your photo onto our Wall of Shame for everyone to laugh at, if you succeed you'll be in our prized Frame of Fame and take home an awesome 'I Defeated The Grumpy Panda Kraken Challenge' t-shirt!

I'm coming by car, where can I park?
There is free shared parking to the front of the diner, however spaces are usually limited on weekdays. There is a paid car park behind us, accessible by High W Street or Walker Terrace. There is also a large car park at Trinity Square, just a 4 minute walk from us. Our postcode for your SatNav is NE8 1LU.
Are you child friendly?
Absolutely! Children are welcome in the diner until 5pm Wed-Sat. We even have a cosy room at the back where children (and adults!) can play, read and colour in. Our seating may not be suitable for small children however highchairs are available. Please be aware that there are a few steps at the front door of the diner.
Can I bring my dog?
OF COURSE YOU CAN! Well behaved dogs are ALWAYS welcome, but please be aware that you may need to allow extra time for your visit (nothing serious, we just LOVE dogs!). We do ask that dogs are kept out of the back room when children are present.
What about disabled access?
We always do our best to accommodate disabled persons and will make every effort to make your visit as comfortable as possible. However, please be aware that there are a few steps at the front door of the diner and our customer toilets are on the first floor. Unfortunately as we're in a listed building there are limits on what we can do to improve disabled access however, we are always on hand to help you. Our seating is mostly high tables with bar stools however we do have one low table with regular seating, please let us know if you wish reserve this table ahead of time.
Do you take reservations?
YES. We can take reservations for single tables or whole rooms of the venue during our opening hours. Just give us a call 07498903588. Please note that we will only keep a table for 15 minutes after your reservation time - please call us if you are delayed or wish to cancel. We no longer take reservations between 12 - 3 on Saturdays as we do tend to get very busy with lunchtime walk-ins.
Can I hire the venue for my event?
Yep! We have a private room on the first floor which is available for all sorts of events, from conference meetings to small classes and business lunches. You can also reserve a seating area for smaller events. Outside of our regular opening hours the whole diner may be available to hire for your event. Just get in touch if you'd like any further information.
Do you still do outside catering?
We certainly do. On top of running the diner, we can provide catering for outside events such as birthdays, weddings and community events. For more information see our catering section below.

Are you still sharing recipes?
Occasionally, yes. Between running a busy diner and catering events, we don't get time to post as many recipes and blog posts as we'd like, That said, we do still enjoy sharing our recipes and love hearing back from people who've tried them out for themselves!
